University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center
Program Manager
Albuquerque, NM
Diana Martínez is a Program Manager for the UNM Health Sciences Center Office for Diversity since joining the team in January of 2012. In this position, she oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational pipeline programs and curricula geared at increasing the diversity of health professions. Previously, Diana worked for six years at ENLACE New Mexico, where she oversaw policy, data and reporting, development, and community relations initiatives. Diana’s current projects include creating tools for identity analysis and exploration, particularly ones that utilize a lens of culture, race, and cognitive diversity. She and her mother have worked together on one such tool, called the Name Narrative. Through this work, they created a video highlighting family and name narratives as one example for others seeking to increase identity analysis, introspection, and cultural competency in the classroom. The video can be viewed at: http://vimeo.com/63294353. In 2009, Diana helped found the Free Community Legal Clinics/”Law-Law-Paloozas,” which provide free legal information and consultation to persons from underserved and impoverished communities. Diana assisted in the coordination and implementation of nine clinics serving over one thousand people. Diana also has extensive experience in legislative advocacy and community organizing as well as formal training in grant writing and graphic and web design. Diana is working toward a Master of Public Health from UNM, slated to finish in 2017. Diana has worked for over 11 years on issues of educational and health equity. In 2011, Diana married Javier Martínez. In October of 2012, their first child, Marisela Sierra Martínez Boyer, and in January of 2015, their son, Camilo Javier Martínez Boyer, joined the world.
