Erika Shaver is a Masters of Public Health student in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Michigan with a passion for reducing health disparities and inequalities in healthy food access. She recently finished an internship as a research assistant with Dr. Richard Sadler at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Flint Michigan, where she developed and implemented food store survey and helped a local non-profit develop its five-year strategic plan. She also works in the Childhood Disparities Research Laboratory, where she studies the intersection between culture, health behaviors, and health outcomes in African American adolescents through a cross-sectional study called the Health and Culture Project. Other activities she’s involved with include community service and nutrition education activities with Student Advocates for Nutrition and a Dow Sustainability Fellowship project focused on developing an affordable housing public education campaign for Ann Arbor, Michigan.
