Honors, Awards & Affiliations: Dr. Jonas is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences (elected), the American College of Preventive Medicine, the American Public Health Association, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He is a Past President of the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine. He is the recipient of the Duncan Clark Career Achievement Award, Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (2006), and the Yale School of Public Health Distinguished Alumni Award (2010). Select Publications: He has authored, co-authored, edited and co-edited 18 books of his own and has collaborated on 18 others, on topics ranging from the first text book on the US health care system, Health Care Delivery in the United States, first published in 1977, (New York: Springer Publishing Co., 1977), to the first book on the sport of triathlon for beginners, Triathloning for Ordinary Mortals (New York: W.W. Norton, 20th anniversary 2nd edition, 2006); to the first preventive medicine textbook organized around risk factors rather than around diseases, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Clinical Practice (2nd ed. Philadelphia, PA: Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, 2007), to Exercise is Medicine tm: The Exercise Prescription in Clinical Practice (Philadelphia, PA: Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2009,) to The 15% Solution: How the Republican Religious Right Took Control of the U.S., 1981-2022 – A Futuristic Novel (Brewster, NY: Trepper & Katz Impact Books: Punto Press, 2013); and most recently Ending the ‘Drug War’; Solving the Drug Problem: The Public Health Approach, (Brewster, NY: Punto Press, 2016). On health policy, preventive medicine and public health, and drug abuse policy, Dr. Jonas has published over 135 professional articles, book chapters, and book reviews, and has delivered well over 100 papers at conferences and seminars. In addition, he has published numerous articles in the lay press, primarily on exercise and sports, and for both lay and professional audiences has given many talks on various aspects of health, fitness, and wellness. On the political side, he is a Senior Editor, Politics, for The Greanville Post, (http://www.greanvillepost.com/); a “Trusted Author“ for Op-Ed News (http://www.opednews.com/); and a regular Contributor to The Planetary Movement (http://www.planetarymovement.org/), and the “Writing for Godot” section of Reader Supported News, and an occasional contributor to “From the G-Man” (http://fromthegman.blogspot.com/). Personal Background: Dr. Jonas has two children of his own, Jacob and Lillian, elementary school teachers, ages 43 and 42 respectively, and a stepson, Mark Newman, 42, an architect/web-designer. His wife is Mrs. Chezna Newman of New York City. He has just completed his 34th season of multi-sport racing.
